In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and Thriller-credited for transforming the music video into an art form and a promotional tool-helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as “Black or White” and “Scream” made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.

Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his changing appearance and behavior, generated significant controversy, damaging his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer experienced health concerns from the early 1990s until his death, as well as conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, all of which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.

 1975-1981: Move to Epic and Off the Wall

The Jackson 5 signed a new contract with CBS Records in June 1975, joining the Philadelphia International Records division, later Epic Records. As a result of legal proceedings, the group was renamed The Jacksons.After the name change, the band continued to tour internationally, releasing six more albums between 1976 and 1984. From 1976 to 1984, Michael Jackson was the lead songwriter of the group, writing hits such as “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)”, “This Place Hotel” and “Can You Feel It”.

In 1978, Jackson starred as Scarecrow in the film musical The Wiz. The musical scores were arranged by Quincy Jones, who formed a partnership with Jackson during the film’s production and agreed to produce the singer’s next solo album, Off the Wall. In 1979, Jackson broke his nose during a complex dance routine. His subsequent rhinoplasty surgery was not a complete success; he complained of breathing difficulties that would affect his career. He was referred to Dr. Steven Hoefflin, who performed Jackson’s second rhinoplasty and other subsequent operations.

Jones and Jackson jointly produced Off the Wall. Songwriters included Jackson, Heatwave’s Rod Temperton, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. Released in 1979, it was the first album to generate four US top 10 hits, including the chart-topping singles “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Rock with You”. Off the Wall reached number three on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified for 7 million shipments in the US and eventually sold over 20 million copies worldwide.In 1980, Jackson won three awards at the American Music Awards for his solo efforts: Favorite Soul/R&B Album, Favorite Male Soul/R&B Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Single for “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”. That year, he also won Billboard Music Awards for Top Black Artist and Top Black Album and a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (for “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”). Despite its commercial success, Jackson felt Off the Wall should have made a much bigger impact, and was determined to exceed expectations with his next release. In 1980, Jackson secured the highest royalty rate in the music industry: 37% of wholesale album profit.

1982-1985: Thriller, Motown 25, We Are the World and business career

 After Jackson’s early 1982 contribution, “Someone In the Dark”, to the blockbuster film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which nabbed him a Grammy for Best Album for Children, Epic issued his second album, Thriller. In what would turn out to be the apex of Jackson’s career, the album remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for 80 consecutive weeks, 37 at the peak. Seven singles from Thriller concurrently hit the Billboard Hot 100 top 10, including “Billie Jean”, “Beat It” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”. Thriller went on to sell upwards of 109 million copies, making it the best-selling album of all time, causing Jackson biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli to muse that “at some point, Thriller stopped selling like a leisure item-like a magazine, a toy, tickets to a hit movie-and started selling like a household staple.”

The period of Thriller was an extraodinarily lucrative one for Jackson, whose lawyer John Branca had negotiated what he boasted then as the highest royalty rate ever in the music industry, approximately $2 per album. Meanwhile, Jackson raked in profits from The Making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, a documentary by Jackson and John Landis which quickly sold over 350,000 copies. In addition, Jackson began profiting from his image in earnest, as Michael Jackson dolls and other novelties hit the market.

Beyond its record-breaking success among fans, Thriller instituted multiple changes within the music industry. One, it raised the importance of albums, while challenging notions about how many prospective hits an album should contain. Two, it restored to the industry a sense of confidence in its ability to release high-level artistry during a time when profits had been sinking due to what one industry analyst called “the ruins of punk and the chic regions of synthesizer pop”. Three, it helped bring MTV into its heyday, even as MTV helped fuel Thriller’s success. Four, Thriller paved the way for other well-profitable acts such as Prince. In the end, in many ways, Jackson had become a one-man rescue team for the music business. At its 25th anniversary, Thriller retained importance influence over the music industry, artists, and American culture.

On March 25, 1983, Jackson performed live on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special, both with The Jackson 5 and on his own singing “Billie Jean”. Debuting his signature dance move-the moonwalk-his performances during the event were seen by 47 million viewers during its initial airing, and drew comparisons to Elvis Presley’s and the The Beatles’ appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. The New York Times said, “The moonwalk that he made famous is an apt metaphor for his dance style. How does he do it? As a technician, he is a great illusionist, a genuine mime. His ability to keep one leg straight as he glides while the other bends and seems to walk requires perfect timing”.

On May 14, 1984, Jackson was invited to the White House

Jackson at the <a href=”http://www.squidoo.com/Micheal-Jackson”>White House </a>South Portico with President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan, 1984 Jackson suffered a setback on January 27, 1984. While filming a Pepsi Cola commercial at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Jackson suffered second degree burns to his scalp after pyrotechnics accidentally set his hair on fire. Happening in front of a full house of fans during a simulated concert, the incident was the subject of heavy media scrutiny and elicited an outpouring of sympathy. PepsiCo settled a lawsuit out of court, and Jackson gave his $1.5 million settlement to the “Michael Jackson Burn Center” which was a piece of new technology to help people with severe burns. Jackson had his third rhinoplasty shortly afterwards and grew self conscious about his appearance.

On May 14, 1984, Jackson was invited to the White House to receive an award presented by U.S. President Ronald Reagan. The award was given for Jackson’s support of charities that helped people overcome alcohol and drug abuse. Jackson won eight awards during the 1984 Grammys. Unlike later albums, Thriller did not have an official tour to promote it, but the 1984 Victory Tour, headlined by The Jacksons, showcased much of Jackson’s new solo material to more than two million Americans. He donated his $5 million share from the Victory Tour to charity.

Jackson co-wrote the charity single “We Are the World” with Lionel Richie, which was released worldwide to aid the poor in Africa and the US. He was one of 39 music celebrities who performed on the record. The single became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with nearly 20 million copies sold and millions of dollars donated to famine relief.

While working with Paul McCartney on the two hit singles “The Girl Is Mine” and “Say Say Say”, the pair became friendly, occasionally visiting one another. In one discussion, McCartney told Jackson about the millions of dollars he had made from music catalogs; he was earning approximately $40 million a year from other people’s songs. Jackson then began a business career buying, selling and distributing publishing rights to music from numerous artists. Shortly afterwards, Northern Songs-a music catalog holding thousands of songs, including The Beatles’ back catalog-was put up for sale.

Jackson took immediate interest in the catalog but was warned that he would face strong competition. Excited, he skipped around saying, “I don’t care. I want those songs. Get me those songs Branca [his attorney]“. Branca then contacted the attorney of McCartney, who clarified that his client was not interested in bidding; “It’s too pricey”. After Jackson had started negotiations, McCartney changed his mind and tried to persuade Yoko Ono to join him in a joint bid, she declined, so he pulled out. Jackson eventually beat the rest of the competition in negotiations that lasted 10 months, purchasing the catalog for $47.5 million. When McCartney found out he said, “I think it’s dodgy to do things like that. To be someone’s friend and then buy the rug they’re standing on”. Reacting to that statement, biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli observed that McCartney made millions of dollars from the music of other people. He had more money than Jackson at that point so could have made a substantial bid for his own music and would not have suffered financial difficulties from Jackson owning the catalog .

1986-1990: Tabloids, appearance, Bad, autobiography and films

In 1986, the tabloid press ran a story claiming that Jackson slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to slow the aging process; he was pictured lying down in a glass box. Although the claim was untrue, Jackson disseminated the fabricated story himself. The singer was promoting his upcoming movie Captain EO and wanted to promote a science fiction image of himself. Jackson had a fourth rhinoplasty and, wanting masculine features, had a cleft put in his chin. Then he starred in the Francis Ford Coppola-directed 3-D film Captain EO. It was the most expensive film produced on a per-minute basis at the time, and was later hosted in Disney theme parks. Disneyland featured the film in its Tomorrowland area for nearly 11 years, while Walt Disney World screened the film in its Epcot theme park from 1986 to 1994.

Jackson two years after he was diagnosed with vitiligo, here the early stages of the disease Jackson bought and befriended a pet chimpanzee called Bubbles, an act which extended his eccentric persona. In 2003, the singer claimed that Bubbles shared his toilet and cleaned his bedroom. Later it was reported that Jackson bought the bones of The Elephant Man. Although untrue, it was a story that Jackson again disseminated to the tabloid press. These stories inspired the pejorative nickname “Wacko Jacko”, which Jackson acquired the following year. He would eventually come to despise the nickname. Realizing his mistake, he stopped leaking untruths to the press. However due to the profit being made, the media began making up their own stories.

Jackson’s skin was a medium-brown color for the entire duration of his youth, but starting in the early 1980s, his skin gradually grew paler. This change gained widespread media coverage, including rumors that Jackson was bleaching his skin. In the mid-1980s, Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus; the latter was in remission in Jackson’s case, and both illnesses made him sensitive to sunlight. The treatments he used for his condition further lightened his skin tone, and, with the application of pancake makeup to even out blotches, he could appear very pale. The structure of his face changed as well; several surgeons have speculated that Jackson had undergone multiple nasal surgeries, a forehead lift, thinned lips and a cheekbone surgery. Changes to his face were, in part, due to periods of significant weight loss. Jackson lost weight in the early 1980s because of a change in diet and a desire for “a dancer’s body”. Witnesses reported that Jackson was often dizzy and speculated that he was suffering from anorexia nervosa; periods of weight loss would become a recurring problem for the singer later in life. Some medical professionals have publicly stated their belief that the singer had body dysmorphic disorder, a psychological condition whereby the sufferer has no concept of how they are perceived by others.

“Why not just tell people I’m an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They’ll believe anything you say, because you’re a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, ‘I’m an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight,’ people would say, ‘Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He’s cracked up. You can’t believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.’”

With the industry expecting another major hit, Jackson’s first album in five years, Bad (1987), was highly anticipated. Bad had lower sales than Thriller, but was still a substantial commercial success. In the US, it spawned seven hit singles, five of which (”I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, “Bad”, “The Way You Make Me Feel”, “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana”) reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, more than any other album. As of 2008, the album sold 30 million copies worldwide, including eight million shipments in the US.

The Bad World Tour

Jackson wore a gold-plated military style jacket with belt in the Bad era, The Bad World Tour began on September 12, 1987, and finished on January 14, 1989. In Japan alone, the tour had 14 sellouts and drew 570,000 people, nearly tripling the previous record of 200,000 in a single tour. Jackson broke a Guinness World Record when 504,000 people attended seven sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium. He performed a total of 123 concerts to a total audience of 4.4 million people, and gained a further Guinness World Record when the tour grossed him $125 million. During the trip he invited underprivileged children to watch for free and gave donations to hospitals, orphanages and other charities.

In 1988, Jackson released his first autobiography, Moon Walk, which took four years to complete. Jackson told of his childhood, his experience in The Jackson 5 and the abuse he suffered as a child. He also spoke of his plastic surgery, saying he had two rhinoplastic surgeries and the surgical creation of a cleft in his chin. In the book, he attributed the change in the structure of his face to puberty, weight loss, a strict vegetarian diet, a change in hair style and stage lighting. Moonwalk reached the top position on The New York Times best sellers’ list. The musician then released a film called Moonwalker, which featured live footage, music videos, and a feature film that starred Jackson and Joe Pesci. Moonwalker debuted atop the Billboard Top Music Video Cassette chart, staying there for 22 weeks. It was eventually knocked off the top spot by Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues.

Neverland Ranch

In March 1988, Jackson purchased land near Santa Ynez, California to build Neverland Ranch at a cost of $17 million. The 2,700-acre (11 km2) property had Ferris wheels, a menagerie, and a movie theater. A security staff of 40 patrolled the grounds. In 2003, the property was valued at approximately $100 million. In 1989, his annual earnings from album sales, endorsements, and concerts was estimated at $125 million for that year alone. Shortly afterwards, Jackson became the first Westerner to appear in a television advert for Russia.

Jackson’s success resulted in his being dubbed the “King of Pop”, a nickname conceived by actress and friend Elizabeth Taylor when she presented Jackson with an “Artist of the Decade” award in 1989, proclaiming him “the true king of pop, rock and soul”. President George H. W. Bush presented the singer with The White House’s special “Artist of the Decade” award in recognition of Jackson’s musical influence in the 1980s; Bush commended Jackson for acquiring a “tremendous following” among other achievements. From 1985 to 1990, Jackson donated $500,000 to the United Negro College Fund, and all of the profits from his single “Man in the Mirror” went to charity.

Jackson’s live rendition of “You Were There” at Sammy Davis Jr. 60th birthday celebration received an Emmy nomination.

1991-1993: Dangerous and Super Bowl XXVII

In March 1991, Jackson renewed his contract with Sony for $65 million; a record breaking deal at the time, displacing Neil Diamond’s renewal contract with Columbia Records. Jackson released his eighth album Dangerous in 1991. As of 2008, Dangerous has shipped 7 million copies in the US and has sold 32 million copies worldwide; it is the most successful New Jack Swing album of all time. In the US, the album’s first single “Black or White” was the album’s biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining there for seven weeks, with similar chart performances worldwide. The album’s second single “Remember the Time” spent eight weeks in the top five in the US, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. In 1993, Jackson performed the song at the Soul Train Awards in a wheelchair, saying he had suffered an injury in rehearsals. In the UK and other parts of Europe, “Heal the World” was the biggest hit from the album; it sold 450,000 copies in the UK and spent five weeks at two in 1992.

Jackson founded the “Heal the World Foundation” in 1992. The charity organization brought underprivileged children to Jackson’s ranch, to go on theme park rides that Jackson had built on the property after he purchased it. The foundation also sent millions of dollars around the globe to help children threatened by war and disease. The Dangerous World Tour began on June 27, 1992, and finished on November 11, 1993. Jackson performed to 3.5 million people in 67 concerts. All profits from the concerts went to the “Heal the World Foundation”, raising millions of dollars in relief. He sold the broadcast rights to his Dangerous world tour to HBO for $20 million, a record-breaking deal that still stands. Following the illness and death of Ryan White, Jackson helped draw public attention to HIV/AIDS, something that was still controversial at the time. He publicly pleaded with the Clinton Administration at Bill Clinton’s Inaugural Gala to give more money to HIV/AIDS charities and research.

In a high-profile visit to Africa, Jackson visited several countries, among them Gabon and Egypt. His first stop to Gabon was greeted with a sizable reception of more than 100,000 people in “spiritual bedlam”, some of them carrying signs that read, “Welcome Home Michael”. In his trip to the Ivory Coast, Jackson was crowned “King Sani” by a tribal chief. He then thanked the dignitaries in French and English, signed official documents formalizing his kingship and sat on a golden throne while presiding over ceremonial dances.

One of Jackson’s most acclaimed performances came during the halftime show at Super Bowl XXVII. As the performances began, Jackson was catapulted onto the stage as fireworks went off behind him. As he landed on the canvass, he maintained a motionless “clenched fist, standing statue stance”, dressed in a gold and black military outfit and sunglasses; he remained completely motionless for several minutes while the crowd cheered. He then slowly removed his sunglasses, threw them away and began to sing and dance. His routine included four songs: “Jam”, “Billie Jean”, “Black or White” and “Heal the World”. It was the first Super Bowl where the audience figures increased during the half-time show, and was viewed by 135 million Americans alone; Jackson’s Dangerous album rose 90 places up the album chart.

Jackson was given the “Living Legend Award” at the 35th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. “Black or White” was Grammy nominated for best vocal performance. “Jam” gained two nominations: Best R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.

The Rich Jerk’s new product is called the Sneaky
System, and it’s an extensive training course that
teaches the user how to make 5 page mini-sites,
highly optimized for competitive keywords and terms,
and get them ranked in the search engines for free
traffic.

The idea here is that you build up an empire of these
cheap mini-sites, which easily rank in the search
engines for the purposes of making passive cash.  One
site won’t get you rich, but if you’re making $10 a
day off 1 website, if you make 100 websites, you’re
now making $1,000 a day.  And since you’re not spending
money on advertising, you’re making almost 100% profit.

THE GOOD:

There’s a lot of good things to say about the Rich
Jerk’s Sneaky System.  First of all, it explains
how the search engines work in detail, and tells
you exactly what you need to do to have your websites
rank quickly.

The training is mostly video accessed through a member’s
area, but there are also numerous manuals which detail
the Rich Jerk’s techniques too.

The training is also VERY friendly to the beginner
internet marketer, so someone who is not very familiar
with how to set up a website, create graphics, and
get ranked in the search engines will not get lost.
The training holds your hand all the way through.

And even though this is a great course for beginners,
even experienced online marketers will learn some
great search engine tips.  After all, the Rich Jerk
supposedly made his fortune by working the search
engines and selling off his highly ranked websites,
so you have to figure he’s got some tricks up his
sleeve.

Probably the most interesting aspect of the Sneaky
System is how you can actually sell off your empire
of passive cash sites.  This is a part of the training
that is definitely worth checking out.

Another interesting aspect of the course are the
methods you can use to get backlinks to your website.
Anyone who’s tried their hand at search engine marketing
knows that its getting the links that is the hard
part, but the Rich Jerk shares a number of tips which
make link building quick and easy - without resorting
to scammy black hat techniques which might blow up
in your face.

The Rich Jerk also GIVES YOU all the website files
to use, so setting up your site is very simple, and
makes the “empire building” an easy task.

THE BAD:

Though I found the information in the course to be
of high quality, it is not without its faults.

First of all, you get a seven day trial of the course
for $9.95 (at least, you did at the time of this writing).
This will give you access to the first part of the
Sneaky System where you learn search engine optimization
techniques.

Then, after 7 days, you’re automatically charged $97
for access to the rest of the course, which gives you
the tools and training to put it into practice.

Now, I don’t have a problem with the price.  $97 is
actually cheap for the quantity of quality information
you’re getting.  But I did not like how you had to
wait a full 7 days before getting access to the entire
course!  I guess the Rich Jerk figured it would take
people a while to go through the first part of the
course, but he should have given us the option to pay
for the full thing right off the bat.

Also, sometimes I felt the training went into TOO MUCH
depth.  I can understand how this would be interesting
for newbies to search engine marketing, but for people
who know a little bit about it, some of the training
definitely got repetitive.

Another gripe is the training was not done by the
Rich Jerk himself.  Instead, that task fell to one
of his “Advisors,” who handles a lot of the Rich Jerk’s
SEO for his company.  This is probably good news for
people who find the Rich Jerk’s “I’m better than you”
attitude annoying, but I missed the snarky humor that
only the Rich Jerk can bring to the table.

THE VERDICT:

Over-all, I’d have to say that the Rich Jerk’s Sneaky
System is hands down, one of the best SEO courses
available.

For hard core search engine optimizers, there’s nothing
new.  The true advantage of this course is how to apply
the Rich Jerk’s SEO knowledge to a specific form of
affiliate marketing to make easy money with little work.

Just spending 2 hours a day creating Sneaky System
websites can begin to snowball into a full time passive
income.  Very few other systems can boast that.

It’s also priced VERY low for all the material and training
that you get.  But then, the Rich Jerk has always made
his products very affordable to the masses.

The information is also very friendly to new marketers
who aren’t very experienced or knwoledgeable, and made
by someone who is NOT an engineer, so its very easy for
beginners to understand the teachings and not get confused.

The bottom line:  Buy the course.

The Sneaky System method is a good one.  Not the greatest
in the world, but it will work - especially for those
who don’t have a lot of time to devote to online marketing.

The Rich Jerk likes to brag about how he can easily make lots of money doing next to nothing, and that he can teach you how to do exactly what he does.

The best thing I found about the Rich Jerk’s course is that it is really geared towards people with no experience or knowledge about the internet.  So while some advanced marketing veterans might think his course is silly, for someone like me who was just starting out, his course was a LIFESAVER.

In fact, in all my research, I have yet to come across a course which is as beginner friendly, and effective, as the Rich Jerk.

The Good:

If the Rich Jerk is anything, he’s to the point.  There is no fluff in his book.  None.  Just packed back-to-back tactics and techniques that teach you how to use his methods to stat making money on the internet.

There is a lot of valuable information in there.  What is particuarly interesting are his secrets on creating affiliate websites that actually get you results.

The Rich Jerk talks about how he created lots of affiliate sites like he advises you to make, and wound up selling them for lots of money.

In fact, the tactics the Rich Jerk talks about in the book runs the gammut from affiliate marketing, to wholeselling goods on ebay, to sneaky search engine optimization tactics, to how to protect yourself from scammers and people looking to take advantage of you.

All this combines to be a KILLER resource for beginning marketers.

Other than the fact that the Rich Jerk can seem condecending and pompous at times - and that he’s known for using some dirty language on his forum and blog - there is very little bad to be said about his system.

My only real criticism is that I wish the course was longer!  His ebook is a breeze to read at 64 pages, so much so that I found myself wanting more.  However, he makes up for this with the amazing training he offers when you set up your free website.

The program also needs time for it to prove its WORTH and it needs a bit of a time commitment from the student.  Because of this, people looking for “Quick & Easy” money may be disappointed.

Based on my research, most people expect instant gratification, they don’t like to do work that produce only small results initially. That’s why most people will quit after few weeks or months.

The 4TAM uses some sneaky tricks to get traffic to various different offers.  It all comes down to stealing traffic, sneaky spy tactics, and gaming the search engines.

Now, none of this is bad, but eventually people are going to wise up and figure out ways to counter-act these strategies.  And then, the 4TAM may be rendered worthless.

However, at the moment, the system works extremely well.

The Verdict:

Definitely Recommend.

Despite my reservations about the tactics being used, you can’t argue with results, and plenty of students are getting results using 4TAM.

The problem with free traffic, however, is that its not fast.  Indeed, it can take a good amount of time for search engines to list your content within the first ten results.

Here are some tips you can use to help you get listed in the search engines for the free traffic you want…

Tip #1:  Get Your Site Indexed

Getting you website indexed is relatively simple.  You can go to Google, yahoo, and MSN directly and submit your site to their serch engines, and eventually, thei “spiders” will come, crawl your website, and list it in their search results.  You probably won’t be ranked very high for any keyword terms just yet, but at least you’ll be in there.

Another way is to bookmark your website on a social bookarking service, such as Del.icio.us or Digg.  The easiest way to do this is create an account for yourself on one of these services and bookmark your own website.

These websites help rank online news stories and web pages based on user votes, which the search engines place a lot of importance on, so the sites listed in these services get crawled very rapidly.  If you bookmark your own website, it can be indexed in all three major search engines in three days time.

Tip #2:  Create A Sitemap

Creating a webpage that lists all the pages on your site in a way that’s easy for the search engines to see everything you have to offer is a great way to get your pages ranked.  These pages are called Sitemaps.

Google has their own standard for sitemaps, so if you can create a google-compliant sitemap, you can be sure to optomize your chances that every single page on your site winds up being listed in the Google Search Engine.

Tip #3:  Optimize Your Pages For Specific Keywords

The more you can gear specific webpages on your site towards certain keyword terms, the more likely you’ll be able to get them to rank for those terms.

To do this, you must make your page title, meta description, meta keywords list, and body content geared towards the keyword you want to be ranked for.

The key here is not to load each one of these factors with the keyword you’re targeting, rather, to use related keywords and themes so as to prove to the search engines that your page is relevant to someone who’s searching for the keyword you are targeting.

Tip #4:  Submit Your Website To Directories

There are a great number of internet directories which try and catalogue websites out there, and submitting your website to be listed in as many of them as you can will be beneficial to getting free traffic.

Not all of these directories will send you traffic directly, but they will add weight and authority through backlinks to your website, which Google and Yahoo will definitely notice.

Tip #5:  Get Backlinks To Your Website

Search engines place a heavy importance on links directed at your website from other websites.  The more websites you can get linking back to you, the more important the search engines assume your website is.

If you can get other websites linking back to you using specific keywords in the link text, the search engines will assume your site is relevant for those keyword terms and rank you higher in their results listings for those terms.

You can do this by offering to exchange links with other website owners, submitting your site to link directories, participating in blog and forum discussions, and submitting articles to related websites.

Just remember that free traffic is all about being ranked in the search engine results listings.  The more pages you can get listed in the top 10 results, the more free traffic you’ll get.

Well, let’s face it - if that was really the case, EVERYBODY would be making money on the internet.

Understand that putting up a website is just part of the equation of starting a successful internet business.

If you were to start a real brick-and-mortar businesses, opening your store would only be the first step.  Once the store is open, you need to attract people to come inside the store, and then once they are there, they must BUY.

If you are doing any type of selling on the internet - especially if you’re an affiliate - you need to convince people that buying through your website - and your website alone - is the way to go.

The best way to do this is through a process known as “preselling.”

This is where you, as an affiliate, attract a prospect to your website, and convince them that the products you are reviewing are the ones that they’ll want to spend their hard earned cash on.

The following are some tips you can use to become an effective “preseller,” and get people to buy products through your website…

Preselling Tip #1:  Establish Authority

People respond well to authority.  Policement, judges, doctors, and politicians are all example sof people who can get others to follow their instructions based around the “status” of their authority.

So the best way for people to do what you want them to is to come off as an authority figure on the subject you are talking about.

For instance, telling people they should buy one product over another doesn’t carry any weight.  But when you come off as an authority on the subject, people are more willing to accept your evaluation.

Saying something like:

“I have been golfing since 1998 and have competed in 12 professional golf tours…”

Is much more effective than saying:

“I’m really passionate about golf.”

In one instance, you are stating why you are qualified to be an authority on the subject, and in another instance, you are just talking about your affinity for the subject.

Keep in mind - you don’t ACTUALLY have to be an authority on the subject to establish your authority.  Saying things like “I know what I’m talking about” and “I’ve done my homework” can go a long way.

Preselling Tip #2:  Provide Contrast

When people are searching for information on a specific product or service, what they are doing is looking for reasons why they should or should not buy one product over another.

For instance:  Is an XBox 360 better than a Playstation 3?

If someone is wondering which game console they should purchase, giving them a review that contrasts the two products is much more effective than offering them a review of the consoles on their own.

Let’s say that you, as an affiliate, get a better commission selling an XBox 360 than you do selling a Playstation 3.

What you’ll want to do in your review is state the reasons why you feel the XBox is better than the Playstation 3, AND why the Playstation 3 isn’t worth buying.

The key here is to never be overly-critical of the product you don’t want people to purchase.  When contrasting products, a balances review is always more believable than a lop-sided one.

If you’re in a market where you have many products to compare and contrast, choose the top products in your market - the ones people are most likely to buy - and break down their pros and cons.

People will feel they are getting great insight for their purchase if they know all the reasons why they should buy one product over another.

Preselling Tip #3:  Offer Personal Experience

Personal experience with a product or service is always far more powerful than a “general” review.  So telling your prospect a story about your experience with the product you are selling is very powerful.

For instance, let’s say you were selling a book on how to lose weight.  In your review, you talk about how you went on the diet the book recommends, what you felt like while you were on the diet, how much weight you loss, and how good it felt to finally find a diet that actually works.

As you can see, reading about someone’s personal experience is a much better selling point than saying:

“By following this diet, you’ll lose weight and feel good doing it.”

People respond well to stories, and they want to see proof that something works, or does what they need it to do, before they commit to buying it.

If you can show them personal examples, experiences, and results you yourself achieved, they will more readily believe your recommendation to buy.

Preselling Tip #4:  Relate To Your Reader

It’s a well known fact that people are more willing to buy from someone they know than from a complete stranger.

The more you can make your reader identify with you and relate to you, the more comfortable they’ll feel buying from you.  So you should always make an effort to relate to your typical website visitor.

For instance, let’s say your a single mother working from home, and you’re site is all about teaching other single mothers how to work from home as well.

Talk about dealing with the kids, doing laundry, having lunch with the girls, finding a babysitter for the night, and any other thing that single moms can relate to.

But also talk about common problems you experienced before you found the solution to them.

For instance, a big problem with single mothers is making enough money to support their family, and still having time to take care of their kids.

In this instance, you can talk about being worried about making enough money to support your family, and being too tired to take care of your kids the way you wanted to, until you discovered a method that allowed you to work from home, make good money, and spend time with your family.

Every single mom can relate to that problem, and once they relate to it, they will gladly accept the solution you offer them.

Preselling Tip #5:  Give A Reason To Buy Through Your Site

Too often, affiliate marketers will simply post a review with their affiliate link in it, and that’s it.

But you always want to offer your readers reasons WHY they should buy now, and buy through you.

Actually telling people to click your link is a good start.  Don’t just have a link to the product that says “Click Here To Buy Now,” have a link that says “Click Here Now To Quit Smoking Just Like I Did.”

Tell your reader about special offers the merchant is giving away, and make them think that buying through your website will give them access to them.

For instance, let’s say the merchant you’re an affiliate for is offering five special bonuses to anyone who buys his product.  On your page, you can say:

“By clicking this link now, you’ll get access to 5 special bonuses.”

Even though these bonuses are accessable to everyone who visits the merchant’s site, saying they’ll get access for clicking the link on YOUR site makes it far more appealing.

You can also appeal to someone’s generosity to get them to buy through your site.  Saying something like “If this review helped you, please be courteous and purchase your course through this link to show your support for my efforts.”

After all, if you’ve given them good information, they should feel compelled to return the favor if you ask them to.

Finally, if you’re really ambitious, you can offer your own bonus for people who buy through your website.  This can be something simple like offering a Public Label Rights ebook, or as extravagant as an amazon gift certificate.

Just let people know that if they buy through your website and send you their reciept, you’ll give them something special in return.

Remember - preselling is all about making people WANT to buy, so that by the time they click on your affiliate link, they’ve already made the decision in their mind to make a purchase.

But ideally, the most favorable situation has to do with makeing a steady, passive income while putting forth a minimal amount of effort.

And no other venue is better for that than the internet!

Making money on the internet is quickly becoming one of the fastest, cheapest, and most popular ways to make an extra income.  If you think about it, the internet gives you a world-wide reach to customers,a nd allows you to create a storefront that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Best of all - the internet allows you to automate a great many tasks, so once your website is set up and ready to go, it needs very little of your time to keep it profitable.
